We're just like you. We're college students trying to maximize our food options, while still looking for tasty options. If you struggle to find recipes that are affordable, quick, and easy to make, we can help. We strive to widen our horizons, while also helping you along the way. We want to rewrite the way college students look at food and create a space where 20-somethings can become food connoisseurs. Join us on our culinary journey and chew on.
Meet Keely
My name is Keely Bennett and I’m a junior Communication major at James Madison University. I worked at the prestigious Salsarita's (chipotle wannabe) while in high school, and surprisingly still have a serious passion for food (especially Mexican). My favorite “treat yo’ self” establishments include Bojangles, Hooters and for those really bad days, McDonalds. I spend my free time with the Food Network constantly playing in the background and ordering cheesy bread with my friends. I think this blog will help me break out of my food norms and try something new, and I hope it does the same for you.
Meet India
My name is India Hagen-Gates and I am a Junior at James Madison University. I am currently a double Major studying Communications and Media, Art, & Design. Although keeping up with my studies is difficult, one of my biggest challenges at school has always been cooking for myself. I have been a vegetarian since my senior year of high school. Balancing college life while trying to maintain a healthy vegetarian diet is harder than it sounds. Throughout my three years here at JMU, I have had to find out some easy meals to cook that are healthy but still delicious. I am excited to be writing for The College Chew, to share everything I've learned and to get some tips along the way as well. So from one mediocre cook to another, "Chew On."
Meet Jenna
My name is Jenna Schneider and I am a native New Yorker who definitely loves their food.I currently attend James Madison University as a double major in Communications, concentrating in Public Relations, and Theatre and Dance, concentrating in Dance. I grew up surrounded with home cooked meals every day so quality of food is really important to me. I currently works at a country club in New York as a Bartender and Server. I spent my summer surrounded by the food industry and definitely appreciates healthy eating. I am in love with my two boyfriends, Ben & Jerry and always makes it a priority to purchase them weekly. I have volunteered at many soup kitchens in New York City and understands the value of food. I hopes to spread my love of food with the college community so you can enjoy healthy eating and chew on.
Meet Christine
I am a full time senior at James Madison University as well as part time quesadilla connoisseur. Although I love to cook, it’s a rare event that I’m making more than grilled cheese and frozen entrees in my off campus apartment. Like many other college students, I have found it difficult to balance student life and “haute cuisine”. I am excited to experiment with my classmates, write this blog, and solve all of our college cooking dilemmas.
Meet Jordan
My name is Jordan Nazar and I am a junior at James Madison University. I am a communications major with a concentration in public relations. I have always had a self-made passion for food from making homemade recipes when I was little to becoming a Pinterest food recipe fiend and avid Food Network watcher. I believe that food is one of the greatest comforts in the world and best way to bring a community together. I have volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army. I currently work to provide people with a friendly smile and their daily caffeine fix by working as a barista at Starbucks. By having a passion for food and the experience of being a full time college student I hope to provide the means for young adults to pursue their culinary passions one recipe at a time.
